Anybody else here a language nerd?

What languages are you into? And what free language-learning resources would you recommend?

I like Memrise, it has a lot of free user-made courses for languages and other topics (history, math, science, etc.), and it's much better quality than Duolingo, which has been betraying me lately with its low quality speech bot. It's not as limited as Duo either.

I also like Language Transfer on Youtube, which currently only has Arabic, French, German, Greek, Italian, Spanish, Swahili, and Turkish so far, not all of which are complete. I've only listened to some of the Spanish course so I can't judge the others yet but they help you learn Spanish words based off English words you already know.

And depending on what your local library offers with one of their library cards, you may have free access to a site like Pronunciator or Mango Languages.

No, I'm horrible at languages, I'm so bad at many of the language-based missions in the Festival Plaza

I tried the Italian mission and I kept talking to people that were playing the game in Spanish and French instead. Fainting [Jolteon]

However that is an interesting Youtube channel. Swahili, you say? I could become fluent in Lion King

Also I kinda want to learn Esperanto, I've read a bit about it and it fucking fascinates me

Yes, you could become fluent in The Lion King. The Lion Guard (the spin-off cartoon) is really cute and has plenty of Swahili phrases the characters use.

    [LANGUAGE WANK INCOMING]

Esperanto is some language hipster garbage that will never catch on because nobody worthwhile wants to learn a language that only language hipsters can speak. English, no matter how broken and complicated it is, is a better use of somebody's time if they want to learn a language that will unite nations.

Also, Benny Lewis (the Fluent in 3 Months guy who's completely full of shit, misrepresents his skills to market his products, and a total tittybaby when people call him out) is pretend-fluent in it so you know it's shitto.

If it's easy to learn I don't really care about any of that, though I will say I've never tried looking up videos of it being spoken to see if I like the sound of it etc

And yeah realistically English will be the language but that bores me since I already know it

You could always study Japanese for your kawaii anime/vidya, it's a million times more useful than Esperanto.

I mean, seriously. There's no Esperanto-speaking culture/country to travel to, you'd only be able to speak to a bunch of obnoxious hipsters. If you wanna learn something easy, learn Spanish.

But I don't like the way Spanish sounds. :V

Also I've actually heard Dutch is the easiest language for English speakers to pick up, with German close behind it. I'm sure this varies from person to person and many of the people I've heard this from spoke those languages so they may have been biased

They're also significantly less useful than English in North America but u know
