US/UM Progress Thread

So because people in the main thread wanna go in blind, I've made a separate one for us to liveblog our progress alongside one another, please be generous with your use of the spoiler tag.

I haven't picked my game up yet but I'll have it in a few hours. Posting pre-emptively if anyone else wants to talk about their progress too!

My team right now

I'm not v far in game still:

I'm still playing it slowly and haven't done the 1st trial, my team is litten + inkay + rockruff (the special one)

I'm playing slower than usual myself but it's because I'm trying to do as much as I can per island before leaving. We seem to have more things to do on them this time. I've run into a few side-questy things.

A couple moments from the first island:

I got an Eevee on Wonder Trade & bred a bunch with my Ditto partly for Poke Pelago but mostly so I could have a Jolteon obviously. I'm lucky the last one hatched timid

I have named him Zeus, because clearly timid Jolteons need to be named after mighty gods

Not too far in, just got passed the second trial on the second island, Ultra Moon version. For the record:

- I soft reset like a little bitch until I got the event Rockruff to have a decent nature with either attack or speed boosted. No shame.

- This Rockruff then became my team MVP by about five miles when I went into Festival Plaza and saw I had two of the new shops there that increase base stats (Atk&Sp.Atk or Df&Sp.Df) and I promptly kept shoving her into the Drifblim bouncy castle every damn day. This Rockruff is called Hachiko, is now Dusk Form Lycanroc, and is become death.

- I picked the seal this time because my future wife picked the seal in regular Sun while I picked the owl, and we agreed it would be cute as all fuck to swap starters for the Ultra versions respectively.

- I love my seal more than I will ever admit to loving my seal.

- I caught an Inkay and I love it to pieces. I caught my future wife an Inkay at her request and she got the Contrary ability Inkay (of course she fucking did) so now I'm bitter that mine has to keep Topsy Turvy on it's moveset and basically I'm ready to box the stupid thing out of sheer spite.

- I planned on Umbreon. I got Espeon. I actually don't regret this and I love my Espeon a lot now. I'm not sure what I'm going to do about the obvious flaw of having so many potential Psychic types on my team but I'm doubtful it will be too big of a problem having long since learned how to shit on the E4 of this generation.

Spoiler:

- I transferred a few of my Pokemon from Alpha Sapphire/Moon to Ultra Moon already because this is what I do every generation - the latest game always gets the collectible mons. Aside from a few who I think are still lost in my Y version which I left back in Britainland, Ultra Moon technically has almost every given legendary of every generation... in shiny form. I could pretend to care but we all know I don't, I worked for those damn things fair and square and it isn't like I'm using them in my playthrough. (They're there for after I beat the campaign... huehuehue.)

And completely unrelated to the current generation of games, but something I wanna laugh about all the same: the cloning glitch of Gold/Silver still works on the 3DS virtual console versions of them so I'm playing through Silver while enjoying all three different starters. The problem with this? I have no idea what else I want on my team at all. Especially because I'm picking these things as carefully as possible knowing that they all get their Hidden Abilities in Ultra Moon and oh boy Multiscale Lugia HERE WE COME I already have a Regenerator Ho-Oh thanks to a trade arf arf arf.

Was... there a mystery gift event thing or something? I haven't checked but didn't know about any event Rockruff, I just got a Marshadow

Also lmao that sounds like the first time I used an Espeon, I don't remember what game it was but I'd originally planned on Umbreon & didn't get it, but got stupidly attached to my Espeon anyway

Just pack some fairy type moves on these psychic types, I'm sure almost all of them ca learn a good one

Also whoaaaaa shit I had NO IDEA the Gold/Silver transfers gave hidden abilities. I hope to abuse this with shiny breeding, I've always wanted the collection of shiny eeveelutions

There's a Mystery Gift event Rockruff going on right now that has Own Tempo - the required ability Rockruff needs so that it can evolve at level 25 into Dusk Form Lycanroc as long as it's 5PM-6PM in game time - which means if you're playing Ultra Moon, evolve that fucker at 5AM-6AM real time because the game is set 12 hours ahead.

I'd recommend doing it. Because Midnight form Lycanroc was already my Moon version MVP and Dusk Form Lycanroc is even more disgusting because it gains an ability that increases all the damage of any physical contact move (I.E. the Fire Fang it gets in US or Thunder Fang it gets in UM, moves it can't have otherwise) by 30%

Wait, there's a new form completely? I didn't know this either, nothing in game has indicated that. I'm playing Ultra Sun though. Would you evolve mine & trade it back? If not I'll have to wait until I can get it myself & who knows when that will be

Nothing in game was announced about it but there was a bunch of announcements about it and you can still get the Wonder Trade Rockruff. It evolves into Dusk Form Lycanroc in both US and UM, just at different real-world times (5PM-6PM for you, at level 25 or above.) I don't need to do anything to evolve your dog (and also it's actually impractical for me to do so because I'd need to be awake at 5AM-6AM real world time for it to evolve in game.)

Just... go to Mystery Gift. Get your dog. Train it to 24. Wait until 5PM-6PM and level it to 25. Done.
